A year ago today I purchased my first smart watch, the Pebble Time. At the time there were many options available from various manufacturers. However, after doing my research I decided on the Pebble. Its amazing battery life, rich app selection and great compatibility were part of the reason I made this decision. A desire to monitor my physical activity and sleep patterns also contributed to my choice.
At first it was a bit odd and I thought it would be a fad. However, after a short time using the Pebble, I cannot go without a smartwatch. Simple notifications and control of my music from my wrist are great. No more having to reach out for my phone when it buzzes or having to pick it up when it’s charging.
Sadly, the Pebble company was recently purchased by Fitbit. All hardware development was cancelled and the company gutted. Speaking with fellow Pebble users, this was a tough blow. So many of us were dedicated to this Canadian startup. No other watch matches the Pebble for its battery life, made possible with its eInk screen. All we can hope for is for Fitbit to make good use of the assets it obtained from Pebble. As for me, I will continue to use my Pebble until it’s done.
